Customer Service Representative (CSR)
WHAT KIND OF SCOOTERS DO WE SELL?
There’s a lot of different scooters out there and the term is used interchangeably. We sell and service traditional motor scooters, like Vespas. These are the types that are powered mostly by gas, but also electric motors. They have a seat, wheels, and handlebars like a motorcycle, but with a step-through chassis. They are legal to ride on any road with a speed limit of 50 mph or less, and require a helmet, insurance, titling, a driver’s license. They must obey all regular traffic rules. 49cc scooters go between 30-45mph. Scooters above 49cc require a motorcycle license and go between 50-85mph depending on specific engine size.
HOW DO OUR CUSTOMERS USE OUR PRODUCT?
About 60% of our customers are DC-area commuters, riding to-and-from work. About 30% are students at the University of MD and other DMV colleges, who commute from their home to class and other places in town. The remaining 10% are leisure riders, weekend riders, or they put a scooter on the back of their RV.

Motor scooters provide a number of benefits over other forms of transportation. First and foremost they are faster and more flexible than commuting via bicycle or metro. They are also relatively affordable, with new prices from $1200-3500 on average. Motor scooters can travel faster and farther than stand-up scooters. Lastly, buying a scooter is cheaper than using ride-share or scooter-share services.

College Scooters was founded in 2010, in response to the growing need for an honest, reliable, and fun motorscooter sales and repair shop in the DMV region. We sell quality scooter brands like Genuine Scooters, SYM, and Wolf Brand, and service all high quality makes and models of scooters. All of our products are backed by real warranties, parts support, and service by our shop.

This is a base + commission sales job. You will be expected to hit sales forecasts and make multiple sales per day/week.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
– 1 year of sales or customer service experience is required
REQUIRED EDUCATION
– High school diploma is required
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent communication ability - both written and oral
- Organized and efficient - procrastinators need not apply
- Savvy with basic tech like computers and smartphones
- Comfortable using multiple platforms to communicate with customers
- Strong multi-tasking ability
- Cool, calm, collected, and positive attitude in the workplace

- Clean driving record
- Must be able to pass drug test and background check
- Punctuality. You must be able to arrive on time everyday! Tardiness has no place is our work environment.

WHAT DO SCOOTER MECHANICS DO AT COLLEGE SCOOTERS?
Mechanics are responsible for keeping bikes flowing through our shop efficiently by diagnosing all non-running bikes, assisting entry level techs with repairs and technical info, communicating vehicle repair needs verbally and in writing, completing scheduled maintenance services on scooters and motorcycles, assembling units, and keeping the common shop area clean and organized.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
– 2 years of related professional dealership experience repairing 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines such as motorcycles, ATVS, dirt bikes, boats, etc.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
– High school diploma is required
– A college degree, specialty programs, and/or program certificates are regarded highly, but are not required. MMI or YTI graduation is a big plus.
REQUIRED SKILLS
– Strong hands-on skills and abilities
– Basic tool familiarity: terminology, how to use, etc.
– Ability to lift 50+ lbs. regularly without assistance
– Ability to load and unload heavy scooters from trucks and trailers with ramps
– Ability to be on your feet for a large majority of the day
– Clear and effective communication skills
– Strong teamwork skills (almost everything you do will be team-related)
– A passion for problem solving and fixing things
– Strong basic computer skills (we will train you on our inventory and POS systems)
– Great customer interaction skills. You will not be isolated in your role, and will have to work with customers in explaining a service or teaching them how to ride.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
– Clean driving record
– Must be able to pass drug test and background check
– A valid motorcycle license (if you don’t have one, you must acquire one within 90 days of hire)
– Punctuality. You must be able to arrive on time everyday! Tardiness has no place is our work environment.
– An organized and well-stored tool set (if you don’t have all required tools, you will be required to acquire or basic list before you start). We will provide a tool cart for maximum service efficiency. We also provide a number of specialty tools for use by all mechanics.
– DOT approved motorcycle helmet (can purchase from us if you don’t have one yet!)
– Reliable daily independent transportation
